They said "yes" to the dress

Today we were supposed to make benches for the kids club but we couldn't because the power was off all day. The girls still made cookies and we got all the dresses and toys loaded up into the van and truck to take to one of the local churches in Bor Canal. We preformed the play David and Goliath skit for the boys and girls and sang songs also. We passed out cookies and dresses to the girls and toys to the boys. Ryan played Goliath and Dan played the King of the Isrealites. Jiffy and Wuben (Ruben)were the translators and song singers with their Bob Marley wigs on (as in the picture)

Bor Canal

The word for yesterday was COMPASSION. We visited a small community that consisted of the poorer population of this area. A heartwarming moment to share about our prayer walk in Bor Canal occured during a time I was praying. With eyes shut, one hand lifted up to God, I heard the sound of shuffling feet around me. I opened my eyes and found I was surrounded by Haitian children raising their tiny hands, bowing their heads and even saying Jesus and Amen! Pray with us that His presence continues to grow.

We Made It!!!

It was a long journey, but we are now settling in for the night in Gonaives. The day was filled with adventure, from having to repack our bags several times over due to baggage rules, as well as sleeping in the aiport during a long layover in Dallas. Our host Jan met us at the airport, and the excitement really began. The three hour van ride from the airport to Gonaives was one of the most exciting experiences of our lives. Although we were all exhausted, the only person that was able to sleep at all on the ride was Ed.

Thank you for your prayers for safe travels. Please continue to lift us up.

Haiti Mission Trip

On January 12th 2010, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake shook the center of the capital city in Haiti. The devastation to Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas is hard to imagine. Over 280,000 people were killed and millions left homeless. Volunteers worked around the clock for two weeks looking for survivors pulling hundreds from the rubble. Nearly one year later, only 2% of the rubble has been cleared and millions are living in tent cities in surrounding areas. For weeks Haiti was on every TV channel and radio station, there were relief concerts, celebrity fundraisers and telethons keeping Haiti and their need for help in the news. Although it’s not front page news, there is still a huge need for aid and relief.

On December 27th-January 3rd, CLC is sending a team on a short term mission’s trip to Haiti. We will be meeting up with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) to work with them. The team members are:

Ed Tyler
Julie Tyler
Ryan Lipert
Lukas Bellisomi
Brenda Wallace
Jackie Robrecht
Silvia Cooke

We will be staying in a small town outside of Por-au-Prince, called Gonaives. Our team will be staying with a local missionary there and helping in different capacities. There will be some building projects, as well as some ministry opportunities with the local children and at the local prison.

The time leading up to the trip has been an amazing opportunity to to see prayers answered with respect to the incredible amount of preparation and fundraising, as well as preparing Haiti in advance of our arrival. As a testament to God's faithfulness, we have been able to raise all the money needed and more. In addition, we are able to bring down 120 solar powered lights and 6 water filtration units. http://www.ywamemerge.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=110&Itemid=161

Please continue to pray for our team as we get ready and travel to Haiti. We will try to keep this blog updated as much as possible while in Haiti.
